Acerca de los tribunales

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court consists of five Justices and is located in Santa Fe. This is the court of last resort and has superintending control over all inferior courts and attorneys licensed in the state.

This court has mandatory appellate jurisdiction over: criminal matters in which the sentence imposed is life in prison or the death penalty, appeals from the Public Regulation Commission, appeals from the granting of writs of habeas corpus, appeals in actions challenging nominations, and removal of public officials.

Discretionary jurisdiction: denials of petitions for writ of habeas corpus, petitions for writ of certiorari to the Court of Appeals, other extraordinary writ matters, and certified questions either from the Court of Appeals or federal courts.


Court of Appeals

Ten judges preside, sitting in panels of three. The Court of Appeals has offices in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

This court has mandatory jurisdiction in: civil, non-capital criminal, juvenile cases; Discretionary jurisdiction in interlocutory decision cases and administrative agency appeals.


District Court

One-hundred-two judges preside. There are thirteen different districts. These are District Courts of general jurisdiction which hold jury trials.

This court will hear these types of cases: Tort, contract, real property rights, and estate. Exclusive domestic relations, mental health, appeals for administrative agencies and lower courts, miscellaneous civil jurisdiction; Misdemeanor. Exclusive criminal appeals jurisdiction; Exclusive juvenile jurisdiction.


Magistrate Court

Sixty-seven judges preside. There are 46 magistrate courts. These are courts of limited jurisdiction. Jury trials.

This court will hear these types of cases: Tort, contract, landlord/tenant rights ($0-10,000); Felony preliminary hearings; Misdemeanor, DWI/DUI and other traffic violations.


Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court

Nineteen judges preside. Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court is of limited jurisdiction. Jury trials.

This court will hear these types of cases: Tort, contract, landlord/tenant rights ($0-10,000); Felony first appearances; Misdemeanor, DWI/DUI, Domestic Violence and other traffic violations.


Municipal Court

Eighty-three judges preside. There are eighty-one municipal courts. These are courts of limited jurisdiction. No jury trials.

This court will hear these types of cases: Petty misdemeanors, DWI/DUI, traffic violations and other municipal ordinance violations.


Probate Court

Thirty-three judges. There are thirty-three counties. These are courts of limited jurisdiction. No jury trials.

This court will hear these types of cases: Informal probate; Estate (Hears uncontested cases. Contested cases go to district court).

Everyone summoned for jury duty in the 13th Judicial District, Cibola County, must complete the Jury Qualification & Questionnaire online at jurorportal.nmcourts.gov even if you are requesting to be excused. If you do not have access to the internet, we provide a computer at the Courthouse that you can use.

If you are 75 years of age or older, you can be permanently excused by requesting it over the phone at (505) 287-8831 Ext: 3122 or through your online Questionnaire.

All jurors summoned in Cibola County have a sequence number on their summons. This sequence number is used every week to determine if you are called for jury duty.

THIS IS ONLY FOR JURORS WHOSE SERVICE TERM IS February 9, 2024 THROUGH May 9, 2024

**REMEMBER** to call every Friday after 5:00pm to (505) 287-8831 Ext: 1 or check the Jury Duty website for any upcoming Jury Trials. The night before your Juror Sequence Number is required to appear, call the Jury phone line or check the Jury Duty website to find out if any changes have been made to your appearance date/time. This will help avoid any unnecessary trips to the Courthouse in the event the Jury Trial has been changed or canceled.

If you need to request dates that you will not be available to come in, please upload your request to the juror portal website at jurorportal.nmcourts.gov or you can email us at gradjury@nmcourts.gov. All requests must be done in writing.

**Juror Sequence Number 383 through 553 you WILL NEED TO APPEAR on April 18, 2024 @ 8:00am for Jury Trial Selection before the Honorable Judge Amanda Sanchez Villalobos

**Juror Sequence Number 121 through 382 you WILL NEED TO APPEAR on April 22, 2024 @ 8:00am for Jury Trial Selection before the Honorable Judge George Eichwald

**Juror Sequence Number 121 through 700 you ARE ON STANDBY for the days of April 23, 2024 through May 3, 2024 for Jury Trial Selection before the Honorable Judge Amanda Sanchez Villalobos. We will update information on April 19, 2024 for Jury Trial dates and Juror sequence numbers that will need to appear for these two weeks

**The 15 Grand Jurors who were selected on February 9, 2024 you WILL NEED TO APPEAR on APRIL 12, 2024 @ 9:00am and APRIL 26, 2024 @ 9:00am for Grand Jury Service.

 

When requested to appear for Jury Trial Selection, you may bring a bottle of water that has not yet been opened. You will be asked to take all other personal items back to your vehicle.

**Please note we follow the Cibola County Schools when it comes to weather closures or delays. Please check your local news stations.

 

Welcome all new Jurors!

New Term for Petit Jury is from March 1, 2024 to May 31, 2024.

Juror Sequence #1-475: There are no trials from March 25th to April 19, 2024.

Juror Sequence #1-300: Please stand by to report for jury selection on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 @ 8:30 am before the Honorable Christopher Perez.

All persons summoned for jury duty in the 13th Judicial District, Sandoval County, must complete the Juror Qualification and Questionnaire form, available on the Juror Portal.

If you are 75 years of age or older you can be permanently excused from jury duty by completing an Affidavit of Age available in Exemption from Service, email us @ berdjuror@nmcourts.gov or by calling the jury clerk @ (505) 867-2376 ext. 1124

All jurors summoned in Sandoval County have a sequence number on their summons. This sequence number is used every week to determine if your jury panel has been called for jury duty. There are several  options to determine when you must report for jury selection:

  • You can use this website to access the Sandoval County Jury Duty/ Panel Update every Friday after 5:30 p.m. to determine when your panel number must report for jury duty.
  • You can also call the jury duty Code-a-Phone at 505-867-2376 extension 4 every Friday after 5:30 p.m. to determine when your panel number must report for jury duty.
  • A notification for jury service will be sent electronically thru email or text notification that we received from you when you signed up on the juror portal. 

REMEMBER, do a final check of your jury duty status the night before, or the morning of, the day you are asked to report for jury duty. Occasionally, a trial may be cancelled and your attendance as a potential juror is not required that day. You can check either on the website or by telephone as listed above. Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind you: No cell phones, food, beverages, lighters, matches or weapons allowed in the courthouse.

If you do not have internet access, you must call our office 505-865-2400 ext. 1 by the date listed and request the forms be mailed to you.
